Ensuring the safety and efficiency of your home’s electrical system is paramount. If you're experiencing power issues such as frequent outages, flickering lights, or tripping circuit breakers, it might be time to upgrade your switchboard. At Hopkinson Electrical, we specialize in switchboard upgrades for residential homes across Brisbane's northern suburbs. Our experienced team is dedicated to providing top-quality service and ensuring your home’s electrical system meets the highest safety standards.
1. Safety Enhancements:Older switchboards may lack essential safety features, posing risks like electrical fires and shocks. Upgrading to a modern switchboard with Residual Current Circuit Breakers with Overcurrent protection (RCBOs) significantly improves safety by promptly disconnecting power during a fault.
2. Compliance with Australian Standards:Electrical standards in Australia have evolved to include more stringent safety requirements. Upgrading ensures your system complies with these standards, providing peace of mind and legal compliance.
3. Handling Increased Electrical Demands:Modern homes utilize more electrical appliances and devices than ever before. An upgraded switchboard can accommodate these increased demands, preventing overloads and ensuring a stable power supply.
4. Preserving Property Value:An updated electrical system enhances the overall value of your property, making it more appealing to potential buyers.
What is an RCBO?
RCBO stands for Residual Current Circuit Breaker with Overcurrent protection. It combines the functions of a Residual Current Device (RCD) and a Circuit Breaker, offering protection against both earth faults and overcurrents (short circuits and overloads).
Why Are RCBOs Essential?
Step 1: Inspection and AssessmentOur electricians begin with a comprehensive inspection of your existing switchboard and electrical system. We identify potential issues such as undersized feed cables, missing safety switches, and exposed copper wiring, as seen in the image below.
Step 2: Customized Upgrade PlanBased on our assessment, we create a tailored upgrade plan that addresses your specific needs while complying with all Australian safety standards.
Step 3: Professional InstallationOur skilled team installs the new switchboard with minimal disruption to your daily routine. We use high-quality materials and the latest technology to ensure a reliable and durable upgrade.
Step 4: Testing and CertificationAfter installation, we conduct thorough testing to ensure everything functions correctly. We provide a certificate of compliance, confirming that your new switchboard meets all safety and regulatory requirements.
We are licensed and insured to do all residential electrical, we would never risk having unlicensed workers at Hopkinson Electrical.
We do work in the city, depending on the job, parking, and who the customer is, if we are referred to someone in the city then we will certainly go and do that job, because we value referalls so highly, but we are very busy just in our core area, which is Albany Creek, Eatons Hill, Cashmere and surrounds.
We do install surge protection and often into new switchboards, it's a no brainer when you consider how much the appliances in your home are worth, and how cheap it is to install a surge protection.
We do! We install all types on EV chargers including the most popular 30 amp Tesla Chargers. We also install the 15amp dedicated circuits for the portable tesla chargers.
We will work Saturdays where required for jobs like Hot Water System repairs, lost power to the home, tripping breakers etc. We dont organise work for Saturdays if we can avoid it, as we have families and value the time we get with them over the weekend.
We install around 30-40 smoke alarms a week and provide compliance certificates for every job, with the rules changing in 2027, a lot of home owners are choosing to get ahead of the laws changing and do their homes now, which is clever, as the demand is going to be through the roof when 2027 comes along.
